Whether you are a dedicated wild swimmer, enjoying a coastal walk, planning a day at the beach with the family or simply looking for somewhere lovely to enjoy coffee by the sea in Cornwall, a good beach café can make the experience even better.
At Boutique Cornwall, we love exploring this beautiful county, so we have rounded up seven of our favourite beach cafes in West Cornwall. From cafés overlooking the sea to cosy spots serving indulgent hot chocolates, these are great places to add to your Cornwall itinerary. Better still, they are all dog friendly in one way or another, so your four-legged friend does not have to miss out.

Poldhu Beach Café, The Lizard
If you are looking for a classic Cornwall beach café experience, Poldhu Beach Café is hard to beat. Sitting right beside Poldhu Cove on the Lizard Peninsula, it is the perfect place to refuel after a walk along the coast or a refreshing swim.
Take a seat on the beachside benches and enjoy the sea views with a freshly ground, barista-poured coffee and a slice of cake. Their popular coffee and cake offer makes a tempting post-walk treat, while seasonal drinks and seriously indulgent hot chocolates are ideal when the weather turns chilly.
From pumpkin-spiced lattes to extravagant hot chocolates loaded with toppings, there is plenty to tempt you.
Poldhu is also a popular choice for dog owners. There is a seasonal dog restriction on the beach, so always check the current rules before visiting, but outside restricted times it is a particularly welcoming spot for dogs, with doggy ice cream and even free tennis balls for four-legged visitors.

Gilbert's, Hayle
Located at the end of North Quay in Hayle, Gilbert's enjoys a beautiful waterside setting overlooking the estuary. It is somewhere you can visit at almost any time of day, whether you have just finished an early morning sea swim, spent the day exploring the coast or are looking for somewhere to enjoy dinner as the sun goes down.
Dogs are warmly welcomed, with fresh water and treats available, making it a popular stop for anyone exploring Hayle with their dog.
The location is also particularly appealing for cold-water swimmers. With the water close by and a wood-fired sauna next door, you can combine a refreshing dip with a proper warm-up afterwards.
Free parking along North Quay is another useful bonus.

Gyllyngvase Beach Café, Falmouth
Just steps from one of Falmouth's most popular beaches, Gyllyngvase Beach Café is a great place for breakfast, coffee, cake or an ice cream after a stroll along the coast.
Breakfast is served in the morning, with options including Gylly granola bowls, while the counter is packed with tempting pastries and sweet treats. Think flaky pastries, cinnamon swirls, chocolate twists and almond pastries, all perfect alongside a morning coffee.
There is also a takeaway service across from the main café, serving homemade food, hot drinks, cakes, snacks and plenty of ice cream, including locally made Roskilly's.
Dogs are welcome in the outdoor café areas, although Gyllyngvase Beach itself has seasonal dog restrictions, so check the current rules before letting your dog onto the sand.

Twisted Currant, Porthleven
Just a short stroll from Porthleven beach and harbour, Twisted Currant is a charming tea room that makes a lovely stop after exploring this picturesque fishing village.
The menu includes Tregothnan tea, Lavazza Gold coffee, waffles, loaded baps and indulgent cream teas. There is also a particularly good selection for anyone looking for gluten-free options, with many dishes and treats available gluten free.
Dogs are welcome too, with water bowls and dog treats available, making this a friendly place to stop with your canine companion.
If you are spending the day around Porthleven, a visit here is an easy way to combine a coastal walk with a proper Cornish cream tea.

The Hoxton Special, Marazion
Last but certainly not least is The Hoxton Special in Marazion. Housed in a former lifeguard hut in beautiful Mounts Bay, the café enjoys fantastic views towards the sea and St Michael's Mount.
This is a great choice if you are combining a beach day with a little adventure. Paddleboards, surfboards and kayaks can be hired here, making it easy to get out on the water before settling down for coffee and cake.
Inside or outside, you can enjoy their famous coffee, toasties and tempting cakes, served in vintage china with the sea stretching out in front of you, bliss!

The Welloe, Praa Sands
The Welloe is the perfect warm‑up after a Praa Sands dip -barista coffee, hearty plates, sweeping sea views and a dog‑friendly beach where pups get a warm welcome (and free treats).
Sister to The Ship Inn Porthleven and now proudly back to its original name, it’s a cosy coastal stop with proper Cornish character.

Cove Café, Hayle
Nestled into the cliffs at Riviere Towans, Cove Café is just a few steps from the sand, with an iconic coastal view. The glass-balustraded decking is perfect for sunny summer days, while in winter, a log-burning fire, blankets and cosy window seats make it a welcoming spot to warm up.
Popular with wild swimmers and dog owners, dogs are welcome both inside and out. The café serves fresh food from Cornish producers, including baps, pasties, Shakshuka and changing daily specials.
And, of course, don't miss the famous Cove Hot Chocolates, the perfect reward after a bracing coastal walk or sea swim.
